Is there a reported vulnerability in Ford SYNC 3?

We are committed to working with security researchers, our suppliers and other vehicle manufacturers to ensure the security of our products and the enterprise as a whole.  Ford recently verified a potential  SYNC 3 vulnerability after our supplier disclosed it to us. To date, there have been no reported incidents related to this. For more details, please visit media.ford.com

How is the security of Ford SYNC 3 being addressed?

Ford will soon issue a software patch that will be available online for download and installation via USB. In the interim, if you remain concerned, you can simply turn off the Wi-Fi capability through the SYNC 3 infotainment system’s Settings menu. Instructions to turn off Wi-Fi in SYNC 3 can be found here.

How do I set favorite vehicle locations using SYNC 3?

The SYNC 3 with optional system allows users to create a list of favorite destinations so you can access home, work or other routes easily.

What phones are compatible with SYNC 3?

Any Bluetooth®-enabled smartphone or tablet is compatible with SYNC, provided it is running on compatible software.

  1. aDon’t drive while distracted. Use voice-operated systems when possible; don’t use handheld devices while driving. Some features may be locked out while the vehicle is in gear. Not all features are compatible with all phones.
  2. bCommands may vary by phone and AppLink software.
  3. cFordPass, compatible with select smartphone platforms, is available through a free download. Message and data rates may apply.
  4. dVehicle Health Alerts require SYNC 3 version 2.0 or higher and a data connection via a mobile device or FordPass Connect.™ See SYNC interface, a dealer or a Ford Guide for more information. Aftermarket on-board diagnostic devices may interfere with various vehicle systems, including Vehicle Health Report and 911 Assist.® To avoid interference, remove the device or contact the device maker for more information on compatibility.
