What do I do if the Lane-Keeping System* is not working on my Ford?

The Lane-Keeping System may not engage or your vehicle may not return to the center of the lane for many reasons.

Lane Keeping is Not Engaging

The following are possible causes for the Lane Keeping System not engaging:

Driving Scenarios

  • Your vehicle speed is outside the operational range of the feature. 
  • A quick intentional lane change occurred. 
  • You are driving at high speeds in curves. 
  • You are driving too close to the vehicle in front of you. 

Road Conditions

  • The road has ambiguous lane markings (e.g., construction zones).
  • The road has a sudden offset in lane markings.
  • The road is transitioning between no lane markings to lane markings or vice versa.
  • The road has faint lane markings (e.g., partial yellow lane markings on concrete roads).
  • The road lane is too narrow or too wide.
  • The road is tight or uneven.

Environmental Conditions

  • The sun is directly shining into the camera lens.
  • There is a rapid transition from light to dark, or from dark to light.
  • There is standing water on the road .

Vehicle Symptoms

  • The camera has not been calibrated after a windshield replacement. 
  • There is a camera blockage due to dirt, grime, fog, frost, or water on the windshield. 
  • The Anti-Lock Braking System (ABS) or AdvanceTrac™ is active. 
  • Your vehicle stays too close to the lane markings. 
  • The last alert warning or aid intervention occurred a short time ago. 

Vehicle is Not Returning to the Center of the Lane in the Aid or Aid + Alert Mode

The following are possible causes for your vehicle not returning to the center of the lane after the system has activated:

  • High crosswinds are present. 
  • There is a large road crown. 
  • Rough roads, grooves, or shoulder drop-offs. 
  • Heavy uneven loading of the vehicle or improper tire inflation pressure. 
  • The tires have been changed, or the suspension has been modified.
