How do I transfer my Ford vehicle ownership using FordPass®*?

If you are selling or gifting your vehicle, FordPass gives you access to self-transfer services. Use the steps below for more details. 

Important: Before you attempt to change your vehicle's ownership, ensure the following criteria is met: 

The Current Owner 

  1. Log in to the FordPass App.
  2. Navigate to the Service screen.
  3. Select the Service History tile.
  4. Tap the Vehicle Owner Transfer link.
  5. Input the new owner's email.
    Note: Only emails associated with a FordPass account will be verified by the system. If the email is valid and associated with an account, the Transfer button will turn blue. In the event the new owner not have a FordPass account, they will need to create one to proceed. Visit the Create a FordPass Account topic for registration steps. 
  6. Select Transfer.
    Note: The Transfer Pending notification should appear. This will inform you of any expectations and the number of days the New Owner has to accept your request. 

FordPass will now say "Transfer Pending" in the Service History screen and the new owner must complete the rest of the transfer process outlined below. 

The New Owner 

After the current owner completes the transfer request, you should receive a Transfer of Ownership notification. It will inform you that you have 10 days to accept the transfer.

  1. Open the notification.
  2. Select View Details.
  3. Tap the box if you agree to the conditions stated.
  4. Select Submit.

You should receive a successful screen.

Note: If the vehicle is equipped with an embedded modem, you will be prompted to complete a Master Reset.

If for any reason the request expires before the New Owner accepts, the Current Owner can send another request and restart the process.
