How do I use Reverse Brake Assist with my Ford?
Use the resources below to learn how to use Reverse Brake Assist*, which can help reduce or avoid a collision when backing up by automatically applying the brakes when the system detects an object in your vehicle’s path.
Notes:
- Reverse Brake Assist utilizes radar sensors on the rear bumper to detect objects and help reduce or avoid a collision.
- The system is active when the vehicle is in Reverse (R), traveling above 1 mph but below 7 mph.
- When the system automatically applies the brakes, a message and warning indicator will appear.
Turning Reverse Brake Assist On and Off
Select your SYNC generation from the drop-down options below to learn how to enable or disable the Reverse Braking System. If you need assistance determining the generation of your SYNC system, select the first drop-down option.

- Tap the Settings or Home icon on your vehicle's SYNC screen.
- Select Driving Assistance.
- Swipe up and toggle Reverse Brake Assist on or off.

- Tap Features on your vehicle's SYNC screen.
- Select Driving Assistance.
- Swipe up and toggle Reverse Brake Assist on or off.
SYNC 3
- Tap Settings on your vehicle's SYNC screen while the vehicle is in Park (P).
- Select Driver Assistance.
- Scroll down to Reverse Brake Assist to toggle on or off.
