Why does my trunk release button open my trunk even when my vehicle is locked?
If your vehicle is equipped with an Intelligent Access key, you may have a convenience feature that can unlock your vehicle and trunk — without having to reach for your keys.
If you’re carrying your Intelligence Access key fob on you (e.g., in your pocket, backpack or purse), your trunk will automatically unlock when you press the trunk release button located just above or below the license plate or in the lift gate handle, as long as your key is in close proximity (within three feet) to the trunk.
When your key fob is in the vicinity of your vehicle, it will authorize your vehicle to unlock when you do any of the following:
- Grab and pull a front door handle.
- Press the luggage compartment button.
- Press a button on the key fob.
