How do I use the available On-Board Scales in my F-150 Lightning?
The all-electric 2022 F-150® Lightning™ truck offers available On-Board Scales that let you estimate your payload weight as you add items to your vehicle — from the Mega Power Frunk to the truck bed. This makes it easier to predict battery range and determine how much you can haul.
You can check the approximate weight of your payload two different ways:
- Using the center console touchscreen
- With the FordPass®* App
Checking payload weight with the center console touchscreen
As you're loading your truck bed or Mega Power Frunk:
- Go to the Controls tab on your center console touchscreen
- Select On-Board Scales
You’ll find a graphic representation of an F-150 Lightning along with weight information displayed in a vertical progress bar:
- If the progress bar is blue, you're within payload capacity and may be able to add more items
- If the progress bar is red, you're over capacity and hauling too much
As long as your payload doesn’t exceed your max payload capacity** or the total available capacity of your truck (which includes your passengers and their cargo, for instance), you’re good to go.

You can also access capacity and weight information via FordPass. This means you can monitor the size of your payload from outside your vehicle — on the work site, at the campground or just about wherever you are — right from the palm of your hand.
*FordPass App, compatible with select smartphone platforms, is available via a download. Message and data rates may apply.
**Max payload varies and is based on accessories and vehicle configuration. See label on doorjamb for carrying capacity of a specific vehicle.
