What is the In-Use Verification Program

What is the In-Use Verification Program?

A Ford Escape® SUV is being driven in a city street on a sunny day.

Overview

The Vehicle Emissions In-Use Verification Program, or IUVP, is part of our ongoing commitment to the environment, as well as our continuing efforts to improve the quality and performance of our vehicles. Through this vehicle testing program, we, and other automotive manufacturers, collect the emissions data required to comply with U.S. EPA and California Air Resources Board-mandated regulations.

That’s where you come in — we engage real-world Ford vehicle owners in this voluntary In-Use Verification Program to meet these regulatory requirements. Continue on for more information about IUVP or contact us at iuvp@ford.com with questions.

What to Expect

If your vehicle is randomly selected for our testing program, you will receive an information package by mail. This package contains detailed information about the program and includes forms that need to be completed and returned. Participation in this program is completely voluntary.

FAQs

Do I have to participate in the program?

Participation in the program is voluntary.

Why should I participate in the program?

There are many incentives for participating in the program, including monetary compensation, a complimentary loaner vehicle, even a car wash and a fully-fueled vehicle once the testing is complete. Plus you’re helping Ford support our ongoing commitment to the environment.

What type of rental vehicle will I receive during testing?

Complimentary use of a comparable loaner will be provided while participating in the program. The vehicle will be fully fueled when delivered.

What if my vehicle doesn’t meet the mileage requirement?

Only vehicles meeting the proper specifications will be tested at this time; however, lower mileage can be approved in special circumstances.

How many miles will be put on my Ford vehicle?

On average, 150–200 miles will be put on your vehicle for the testing, combined with the mileage needed to go from the pickup location (you determine this) to the lab and back.

Please note: If a leased vehicle participates, any mileage accumulated during testing counts toward your mileage lease terms.

How will my vehicle be protected?

Both your vehicle and the loaner are fully insured. You will receive a copy of insurance and other documentation when your vehicle is picked up and the loaner is left with you.

How long will testing take?

The testing takes between two to four weeks on average but can go longer.

Please note: If a leased vehicle participates, the lessee is still responsible for adhering to lease terms including lease end date. If your leased vehicle is participating and your lease end date is approaching, you may request your vehicle be returned. It will be returned within one or two business days. Reach out to iuvp@ford.com or your procurement contractor with additional questions.

Is Ford working with anyone on this program?

Roush procures vehicles and provides them to Ford for testing in Michigan. Automotive Testing and Development Services (ATDS) procures and tests vehicles in California, while TRP Laboratories procures and tests vehicles in Colorado.
