How to transfer your phonebook to SYNC

Once you transfer contacts from your phonebook to SYNC^®, you can then say the person's name and SYNC will call for you. You can also say a person at a location, such as "Call Mom at home."²⁷

Turn on the Automatic Phonebook Download feature, and every time you connect your Bluetooth^®-enabled phone, it will update any additions or changes you've made to your contacts.⁴⁸

The phonebook transfer process varies, depending on your vehicle model and year.

If you have a 2017 model year SYNC-equipped vehicle or newer, or one of the 2016 and 2015 vehicles listed below, follow the first set of instructions.

• 2016 model year, SYNC-equipped Escape, Explorer, Edge, F-150, Focus, and Mustang.
• 2015 model year, SYNC-equipped Edge, F-150, Focus, and Mustang.

If you have an older vehicle that is not listed above, follow the second set of instructions.

First set of instructions

Before you start

There are a few things you should do before starting step 1:

• Make sure that your phone is compatible with SYNC by checking our compatibility chart
• Pair and connect your phone to SYNC
• Your vehicle must be in Park and running, not in Accessory mode
• Familiarize yourself with the controls in your vehicle

1. Turn on your:
   • Vehicle
   • Radio/SYNC
   • Mobile phone
2. After pairing and connecting your phone to SYNC, press the Phone button to access the Phone Menu.
3. Press the Arrow buttons to scroll until Phone Settings displays.
   Press OK.
4. Press the Arrow buttons to scroll until Phonebook pref. displays.
   Press OK.
5. Press the OK button to select Auto-Download.
   A checkmark will appear in the box next to it, indicating that this feature had been enabled.
6. Press the Arrow buttons to scroll down and select Download Now. Press OK.
   Phonebook Downloading displays.
   
   When the download is finished, Phonebook Downloaded displays.
   
   Note: You can download up to 2,000 entries. The process can take a few minutes, depending on the number of contacts.

Second set of instructions

1. Turn on your
   • Vehicle
   • Radio/SYNC
   • Mobile phone
2. After pairing your connecting phone to SYNC, press the Phone button to access the Phone Menu.
   Press OK.
3. Press the Arrow buttons to scroll until Phone Settings displays.
   Press OK. Phone Status displays.
4. Press the Arrow buttons to scroll until Download Phonebook displays.
   Press OK.
5. Confirm Download? displays.
   Press OK. Phonebook Downloading displays.
   
   When the download is finished, Downloaded displays.
