What is Ford AdvanceTrac Electronic Stability Control?
The AdvanceTrac® system with Roll Stability Control is a Ford-exclusive system that offers additional features to the Traction Control System to keep vehicles from losing traction in difficult driving situations.
What are AdvanceTrac features?
See the table below for all features included in the AdvanceTrac system and a description of each feature.
AdvanceTrac Feature | Feature Description |
Traction Control System | Helps avoid drive-wheel spin and loss of traction by selectively applying the brakes and modifying engine power |
Electronic Stability Control | Helps to avoid skids or lateral slides, lateral acceleration, and steering wheel angle |
Roll Stability Control | Helps to avoid a vehicle rollover by using a roll-rate sensor, selectively applying brakes, and modifying engine power |
How does AdvanceTrac work?
AdvanceTrac is on by default and requires no driver interaction to operate. AdvanceTrac senses when your vehicle loses control or traction and automatically applies braking to help keep you on the road.
This informative video explains how AdvanceTrac works and how to use it.
How do I disable AdvanceTrac?
If your vehicle is stuck in mud, sand, or snow, AdvanceTrac may need to be temporarily disabled. Turning AdvanceTrac off restores full engine power and allows the wheels to spin freely, enhancing momentum when you are trying to free your vehicle.
To turn AdvanceTrac off*:
- Ensure your vehicle is parked and running, and is in a safe and open location (free of overhead foliage, ceilings, etc.).
Press and hold the Traction Control button on your vehicle's center console for up to 5 seconds.
Note: Simply turning off the Traction Control setting does not disable AdvanceTrac.
Your instrument cluster will display a message stating "Traction Control is off." You can turn it back on by pressing the Traction Control button.
*Instructions may vary. See your Owner's Manual for information specific to your vehicle.
